The miradouros of Lisbon are more than just gorgeous viewpoints, they are almost a activity in Lisbon, a farewell or good morning to the day. It took us a full three days to make our way through most of them, and even then, no two visits felt the same. That’s the thing about these viewpoints: the light is always shifting, so you’ll never see the same miradouro twice. Morning light never repeats, and neither does a sunset.
Since I’m a meticulous planner (some might say obsessive), I put together a map of every miradouro we visited, so you can follow along or plan your own route.
One thing worth knowing: there are seven “famous” miradouros in Lisbon. Miradouro is simply the Portuguese word for “viewpoint,” which is why you’ll see so many spots named “Miradouro [something]” — it’s just marking the view.
We didn’t make it to all seven famous ones, but we did stumble onto a few lesser-known viewpoints along the way, some of which ended up being the best surprises of the trip.

Miradouro do Recolhimento – Not one of the main 7
Just around the corner from the Sao Jorge Castle is Miradouro do Recolhimento. It’s somewhat hidden inside a property right next to a children’s park. This was the most tame out of all the Miradouros we went to. No crowds just one or two people who also must have done their research about this hidden gem. You do have to go through a gate and based off my research its only open a few hours a day but the views were worth the small viewing window.
Right across from these stunning views was the cutest vegan restaurant called Ludo’s, which was a great lunch spot for us. The colors of the food was unreal!

Miradouro Terraços do Carmo
Unfortunately for us the Santa Justa Lift was under some maintenance so we didn’t get the opportunity to actually ride or walk on the lift bridge but just off to the side we did get the same stunning views.
If your looking to ride the lift and experience some other main attractions in Lisbon I would recommend the Lisboa Card. The Lisboa Card is the official city sightseeing pass for Lisbon, Portugal. It combines free public transit, free admission to dozens of top landmarks, and shopping discounts into a single smart card.
Castelo de São Jorge Miradouro
Arguably one of Lisbon’s most iconic viewing points. The miradouro is inside the Castelo de São Jorge and has a monumental panoramic view of the city and river. However Sao Jorge Castle has much more to offer than just panoramic views.

Miradouro da Graça
Right outside of Igreja e Convento da Graça also known as the Church and Convent of Graca. It’s also known as the Church of Our Lady of Grace. Once you step out of the church you’re welcomed with this stunning viewpoint. Also the second highest Miradouro out of the seven main viewpoints.
